Mull has a
great variety of scenery, mountainous, of volcanic origin, with a rocky
coastline and sandy beaches in parts of the island. It is of great
geological interest. There are 2 nine hole golf courses, wildlife
tours and pony trekking. There are opportunities for loch, river
and sea fishing, boat trips (weather permitting) to Staffa and the
Treshnish Islands to see seals, puffins and many other sea birds, plus
whales maybe; hill or coastal walking.....or simply doing nothing!
Interesting places to visit
include Iona with its historic Abbey, Staffa, famous for Fingal's cave
and basalt columns, Duart Castle - home of Clan MacLean, Torosay
Castle with its gardens and statuary, plus a narrow gauge railway
to/from Craignure, the Isle of Ulva, Mull Little Theatre and much, much
more.
Tobermory is the main
town on the island with numerous shops and facilities, including a
museum, a distillery and chocolate factory. It also has a good
selection of restaurants and pubs. It is the starting point for
many trips - including whale watching excursions. For the younger
generation, it is the location for the children's programme, Balamory.
Salen has two general
stores supplying groceries, milk, newspapers etc. There is a post
office, restaurant, coffee shop, filling station and garage.
Gruline Estate: take the B8035 from Salen. The drive is
second left Gruline Church between large stone pillars. It is 3/4
mile long and divides halfway up. Take the left turn and follow
the signs. |
